Business is cyclical. Here are the best things to buy in September …

There are good deals to be found year-round for just about anything. However, it's the nature of business that a lot of deals happen at the same time during the year.
Best things to buy in September
Here are things that you can find good deals on in September:
- Last year's vehicles. If you really, really have your heart set on a new vehicle, then this is the time that the restyled models come out, so dealers are looking to clear out this year's models. (Though, I must say that it's a lot more frugal to buy a recent-model used car.)
- Last year's bicycles. I didn't know that bikes follow the same pattern as vehicles. New bike models come out in September! Therefore, it's a good time to buy last year's model, because stores are wanting to clear the room for the newer stuff.
- Appliances. Updated washers, dryers, fridges, etc., come out in the fall so retailers are making way for them by moving the old stuff at a bargain. (Side note: I'm not sold at all on the Internet of Things idea for appliances. Why does my freezer need to be on the network? Maybe at some point, these “retro” non-networked appliances will go for a premium, but I can't see that now.)
- Plants. My wife is the kind of person that has pity on plants that are on the way out and nurtures them back to health. (I'm not.) Nonetheless, it's getting cooler outside, so plants are cheap now.
- Summer anything. Lawn mowers, grills, patio stuff, swim gear, pool gear, and more need to go bye-bye to make way for more seasonal things.
- Denim. I would have thought that denim was the perfect fall clothing — so why would it go on sale? — but it's apparently more of a back-to-school thing than a fall thing, so the shelves get cleared of it this month somewhat.
- Seasonal fruits and veggies. There's always something in season, and it's cheaper and healthier to get it in season. Some favorites for September are apples, damsons (I had to look this one up; it's a kind of plum), nectarines, peaches, tomatoes, aubergines (a.k.a. eggplants), broccoli, cucumber, kale, leeks, potatoes, radishes, sweet corn, butternut squash, and more.
