Also drive traffic to your other online assets
I no longer am convinced that a website is the key to online riches.
In fact, it's pretty much the hard way now.
What worked in 2005 was to
- register a domain
- set up WordPress,
- join some affiliate programs
- write blog posts with some of those affiliate links
- do a modicum of networking
- profit
That's far harder to pull off in 2024.
This month my Medium income will outstrip the AdSense and affiliate income from my nearly 20-year-old blog.
A ground-floor affiliate opportunity with Benable
If Medium is the new version of the blog community, then Benable may be the new version of Commission Junction meets Amazon Store. No website needed!
Benable gives people tools to set up lists of related products and resources … as well as the ability to earn affiliate commissions from people buying those products!
I signed up for a free account through a friend link from Joe Forrest. Benable is invite-only at the moment.
Consider yourself invited … by me!
There were a few short-fuse deadlines that I missed but I did assemble a list on currency collecting:

This Benable list was a piece of cake to put together.
(Note: I already had an Amazon ID, so to make money from Amazon products you'll need to apply if you don't have one.)
The focus of this list was how to assemble a currency binder.
I had already made a YouTube video on this, so that was the first item in the list.
The other four items are from Amazon: A three-ring binder, currency pages, currency sleeves, and index cards to cut up for the labels in the sleeves.
Creating the last four items was as easy as pasting the links to the product pages into Benable and writing a quick description for each.
I entered my Amazon ID once, and Benable automatically makes an affiliate link out of it.
Done, and done. Here's the list as it stands now.
Money and traffic idea ahead!
One tactic for making money from a YouTube channel, even before getting to the YouTube monetization thresholds, I learned from Kristen Walters:
Set up the video and then put affiliate links on the video page. Put them as cards in the video, in the description, and as a pinned comment.
I essentially had done this already. I had the video and some of the affiliate links on that video.
Multiply the leverage by making a Benable list from the same video and the same affiliate links!
This gives you:
- More places to put the affiliate links (which Benable will help promote for you if the list catches on)
- AND another place to drive views of the video!
Why not give it a shot?
