Quick travel tip

I'm in California right now on travel.  If you get a per diem for meals (like I do) then you can “make” a little extra money by buying your own food for some of the meals.

So if you're in a place with a grocery store that has a “club discount” card you can spend even less — but you have to get the card.   The prices are a bit higher if you don't have the discount card.

The trick: you can sometimes get the card right there, without waiting for it to get mailed to you.  I don't have the receipt in front of me but I definitely saved a few dollars.

  1. I have found that if you ask for the application for the store discount card that the cashier will go ahead and swipe their register card for the discount at the time of your first purchase. I have also offered to let someone in front of me use my card to get the discount. They got the money off and their purchases counted toward a free turkey for me (it was holiday time).

  2. Dear Bargain hunter,

I read your blog and enjoyed what you had to say. I'm currently searching for financial bloggers for a new financial portal and investor community. Your point of view and knowledge would fit in great into the portal. This would be a great opportunity to broaden your online exposure and market tools. If this is something that might interest you, Please contact me.
