Keeping score on my side quest
Having a mini-game for your main goals helps to keep focus.
Though my primary goal for the next couple of months is to earn $100 through the Medium Partner Program in a single month, I'm also building up my YouTube channel.
(This YouTube channel is focused on currency collecting, and is an offshoot of my Facebook Group.)
As I work over there, it provides material to bring here, to work toward my primary goal.
This will be a short-ish series, once a week, through the end of July.
Four videos uploaded since 6/16/2024
Over the past eight days, I've uploaded two regular videos and two shorts.
One of the regular videos has me testing out combining a bill hunt (going through dollar bills looking for cool serial numbers) with me talking briefly about a single question. I have another one scripted for the coming week.
The other is an instructional video on pricing bills to sell.
The two shorts talk about two kinds of special serial numbers. For some reason, the first one got a decent boost, and I got five new subscribers that day.
Created a couple of new playlists
When I began the channel some time ago, the channel was under my main blog's name. However, most of the videos were about serial numbers, since that became the most visited topic on my blog.
Most every video was under a single playlist, which wasn't terribly helpful. I created a couple more targeted playlists dealing with currency hunts and with pricing bills on eBay.
Developing rapport with two other growing channels
I've had some good comments coming from a couple of growing channels. One has nearly 2,000 subscribers, and the other has a little over 300. (I'm in the high 500s now.)
I've subscribed to their channels. Hopefully, we'll continue to support one another.
(Re)banned an axe grinder
I had a YouTube user who was using my comment section to grind his personal axe to save people from themselves.
He posted a comment on one of my videos not ten minutes after it was uploaded. After I shrugged it off (literally) he came back with more soapboxing and insinuations, none of which had anything to do with the video I posted.
After a few more exchanges, I realized that I was tired of him coming over to crap on my lawn.
He won't be doing it again, because he's banned.
Monetization eligibility
I currently have 587 subscribers, up 9 from the previous 7 days. I need 1,000 subscribers minimum.
I have 582 public watch hours over the past 12 months. I need 4,000 minimum on regular videos. (Shorts don't count.)
My strategy for increasing these numbers is:
- Continue to post new videos
- Develop relationships with other similar channels
- Respond to comments
- Cross-promote videos on my other online properties
