A complementary “mini-game” for your main game (main goal) can help you to stay on track.
My primary goal through August 2024 is to earn $100 through the Medium Partner Program in a single month. To complement this, I'm also working toward monetizing my YouTube channel.
(This YouTube channel is focused on currency collecting, and is an offshoot of my Facebook Group.)
My work over there gives me material to bring here, which works directly toward my primary goal.
This will be a short-ish series, once a week, through the end of July.
Two videos uploaded since 6/23/2024
Over the past seven days, I've added one regular video and one short.
The regular video talks about a bill that's both awesome and sad. Awesome because the serial number is very rare, and sad because the bill is torn in two:
The short talks about one of my favorite bills. It's kind of fancy, but it's one I found in the wild. (The other fancy bills I have I've purchased.)
The short was well received and got over 800 views on the first day:
Continuing to support other growing channels
I've had some nice conversations with owners of a couple of growing channels. One has nearly 2,000 subscribers, and the other has a little over 300. (I'm at nearly 600 now.)
I've subscribed to their channels and commented on their videos. Hopefully, we'll continue to support one another.
Monetization eligibility
I currently have 594 subscribers, up 7 from the previous 7 days. I need 1,000 subscribers minimum.
I have 589 public watch hours over the past 12 months, up 7 from the previous 7 days. I need 4,000 minimum on regular videos. (Shorts don't count.)
It's going to be a race as to which threshold I meet first. I think that the subscriber threshold will be easier to meet. Four thousand hours of viewing in 12 months is about 11 hours a day, every day. To meet that in six months, I'll need to almost double that to make the trailing 12 months add up to 4,000 hours. My peak days over the past year are only about half of what I need. I hit 6.5 hours on three days in the past year. (Fortunately, one of those days was just a week and a half ago, so posting more is the right thing to do!)
My strategy for increasing these numbers is:
- Continue to post new videos.
- Develop relationships with other similar channels.
- Respond to comments.
- Cross-promote videos on my other online properties, such as my blogs and my Facebook group.
