At the risk of inflating Jim's ego any more by spotlighting his posts, I'm really excited to hear about Blueprint for Financial Prosperity's upcoming post category called the Devil's Advocate. He'll take conventional financial wisdom and argue the other side, as in “rent forever” or “spend more than you earn.”
His motivation is a very good one. Funny or not, absurd or not, you don't hear people challenging conventional wisdom that much. I think that it's dangerous to do what everyone else seems to be advising, because it's difficult to get ahead by doing what everyone else is doing. Further, what motivates people to advise the way they do? Why should you take their advice? Does it fit your needs? I can't answer these questions for anyone else but myself, but participating in discussions that let me play the fool
