Our daughter was invited to her first outside-of-the-family birthday party this weekend. The party had a Mad Hatter Tea Party theme and the entertainer — dressed to the nines as the Queen of Hearts — had costumes available for each of the children. Our daughter dressed up as a butterfly, complete with wings.
Needless to say, it was not a happy occasion when the entertainer had to leave — with our daughter's beloved butterfly costume.
My wife looked at the wings and said (as she does with a lot of things): “I can make that!”
Cost of a set of wings, pre-made: $18.00 plus shipping.
Cost of the wings my wife made for our daughter:
- $0.66 for two pair of knee-high stockings
- $2.50 for a package of five different colors of glitter glue
- wire, coat hangers, fabric markers, and elastic material already on hand
Grand total: $3.16. Result: a set of wings with WAY more character than Amazon's, at 17% the cost! 😉
They look awesome.
Butterfly wings: $3.16; the imagination and the 'can do' attitude: priceless !
Awesome! Your wife rocks.
Really cute. Now how I can get your wife to make a set for me? 🙂
I have no idea why people buy costumes. It's so easy to whip up something for cheap.
Ha Ha! That's sweet, for some many reasons
Hello John,
Beautiful butterfly wings……your wife made it more beautiful by adding her love in making them.
Our Garden club is looking to make wings and I would love to have your method as cost is an issue.
Thanks. Carole
butterfly’s are my favorite of all God’s creations
