Got this question a couple of days ago from a reader:
How much is 15.4 grams of gold filled worth to a gold and silver place?
Here's what I can tell you.
A gold and silver place will likely give you less than melt value for your chain. If they're not going to resell your chain as-is, they may melt it themselves, or sell it to a scrapper for somewhere around melt value.
What is melt value for your chain, then? The value of your gold jewelry depends on what kind of marking is on the chain. “Gold filled” means “gold, filled with some other base metal.” If the marking has a fraction, as in “1/20 14k”, then you can be guaranteed that the weight of the gold in the chain is at least that fraction. If it's simply “14kgf” then there's no guarantee as to how much gold is in there. It could be 5%, or it could be more or less.
Let's assume that it's at least 5% gold. Then the gold content is 0.05 times 15.4 grams, or 0.77 grams. This is 0.025 troy ounces. Now, with gold crossing $1,400 per troy ounce recently, this would put the value of the gold in your chain at 0.025 times $1,400, or $35.
A place that accepts gold (say, a pawn shop), again, will give you less than $35 for the chain, since they need to make a profit on the transaction. A mail-in gold place will give you far less.
So, the good news is that it's worth something (hopefully), and gold is near an all-time high now. The bad news is that you might be able to get only a couple of pizzas with the money. In either case, there you go. ๐
How much can I get for gold pgm scrap recovery computer pins fingers 30+grams. If it is 30 to 40 grams how much can I get for that?
ronel: Depends on the composition (how much precious metal is in the alloy, is it plated, etc.) and then how much someone is willing to pay for it.
I have seven 22k gold bracelets weighing at 77 grams. The alloy used is platinum. How much would this be worth if i was to sell it? And it has a yellow color to it, but i thought platinum is used for white gold. So is it possible that it is gold plated?
35 dollars if it is pure gold at 1400 per troy ounce.14 K would be less than that
So 11 grams of 1/20 12kGF would be valued at how much?
Multiply the 11g by 1/20 for the fraction of the karat gold in the item, and then by 12/24 = 1/2 because it’s 12-karat. That gives 0.275 grams of pure gold. At current spot price ($43.96 per gram) that makes the melt value of the gold a little over $12.
How much is a 18k gold ring that weights 12 grams worth
Hi Dustin. I’ve added a calculator here. Enjoy!
If gold is $1400 per ounce and I have one ounce of gold how much is my gold worth!? Plzzzzz help!!!
$1400
I have a 24k Gold Filled Ring unmarked but sold as 24kgf itโs beautiful the stones are great. Is it worth anything.
Gold-filled jewelry doesn’t have a specified percentage of gold, so it may not have much gold at all. Check with a pawn shop maybe?
