My wife and I were neighborhood-shopping this weekend and ran across a yard sale Sunday evening. A bit of an unusual time to hold a yard sale but the weather was perfect.
This yard sale had three Steelcase ProtegeĀ® chairs for sale when we got there. My wife tried one of them out and it was really smooth and in great condition. These retail for well over $300; we saw one on eBay for $100 BIN.
We bought one of the mismatched Steelcase chairs and a bunch of really nice shirts and pants for $30.
After loading that chair in the van (this chair was her's) I thought about my really sad-looking chair at home. I tend to use things until their disintegrate, and the back on my chair was just about level with the ground from years of slouching. The guy discounted the first chair for us because it didn't match the other two — like I care! — but I didn't argue with him on his asking price for the other pair, which was $60.
So we ended up with three very nice office chairs and new used clothes for me for $90. This would have been over $1,000 retail.
Now that the weather is getting better, have any of you had good yard sale finds?
Congrats on your nice find!
We still have some snow, so it'll probably be a few more weeks before the sales start up in my neck of the woods. I'm excited – not to go out to them, but to have one!
I wish someone here would have a garage sale! I'm in garage sale withdrawal, LOL! Great buy on the chairs, too! It's good to have a quality office chair–comfortable as the slouchy chair might have been, I can only imagine the damage it's been doing to your back. Use them in good health!
They do say one man's junk is another man's treasure. Great find with the chairs and if its what you are looking for a great money saving as well.
