It's no big secret that the Washington $1 coin error market on eBay is booming. The blank edge coins have been going for at least $40-$50 each for quite a while, and some others like the blank planchet I found have gone for quite a bit more.
One gentleman in Tallahassee had especially good fortune in finding the missing edge lettering errors, and had accumulated nearly six thousand of them. Realizing that time was of the essence to cash in properly on this incredible find, he enlisted the help of several eBay-savvy friends to unload them. Within three weeks much of the hoard was sold, with collectors and dealers alike snapping them up.
The proceeds from these sales were well in excess of $200,000 — enough to purchase this beautiful home in his boyhood town of Dothan, AL. It's hard to believe, that's for sure!
Very good prank. 😉
Oops.. 🙂
I don't know why but I'm attracted to stories like this. Amazing how people get quite resourceful to make things work! Can't believe there's a viable market for such coins. Viable enough to buy you a house!
Ok thanks for the prank 😀 Got me!
