Racking up points on my side quest

A “mini-game” for your main game (main goal) helps you to stay on track by providing variety and a secondary focus.

My main goal through August 2024 is to earn $100 through the Medium Partner Program in a single month.

To complement this, I'm also working toward monetizing my YouTube channel.

My work on the channel gives me material to bring here, which works directly toward my primary goal.

I'll post these once a week, through the end of August.

Two videos uploaded since 7/8/2024

Since the last update, I've added one regular video and one short.

As I've mentioned before, a big part of the hobby is to hunt through a stack of bills for gems. One video was a hunt through fifty $1 bills while I talked about places to sell bills:

The short talked about the current pride and joy of my collection: a solid serial number bill.

All of the digits in the serial number are 7s. Definite wow factor on this one:

Continuing to support other YouTubers

I continue to get great comments from a few subscribers. New ones are showing up, which is a good sign.

I've subscribed to several channels and looked for the little blue dot next to their channel name to see if they've posted new videos.

In the late 2000s decade, I got lazy with my blog and didn't respond to comments. That was a big mistake. I'm not going to do that with this channel.

Monetization eligibility

I currently have 611 subscribers, up 8 from the previous update. I need 1,000 subscribers minimum.

I have 616 public watch hours over the past 12 months, up 20 from the previous 7 days. I need 4,000 minimum on regular videos. (Shorts don't count.)

Over the last seven days, I had 39 watch hours, or an average of about 5 1/2 hours daily. I'll need to double this to monetize.

With each video I add, though, I get some residual watching, about 1.5 hours per month, per video, which starts to add up. That, and more subscribers should increase the watch time for new videos.

This is how it has to work: one view, one subscriber, one like, one share at a time.

My strategy going forward

My strategy for increasing these numbers continues to be:

  • Continue to post new videos. (I'm thinking I need to mix up the Shorts a bit more.)
  • Develop relationships with other similar channels.
  • Respond to comments without fail.
  • Cross-promote videos on my other online properties, such as my blogs and my Facebook group.

Next week I'll report on how I'm cross-promoting the videos.
