Keeping score on my side quest

A “mini-game” for your main game (main goal) helps you to stay on track by providing variety and a secondary focus.

My primary goal through August 2024 is to earn $100 through the Medium Partner Program in a single month. To complement this, I'm also working toward monetizing my YouTube channel.

(This YouTube channel is focused on currency collecting, and is an offshoot of my Facebook Group.)

My work on the channel gives me material to bring here, which works directly toward my primary goal.

This will be a short-ish series, once a week, through the end of August.

Six videos uploaded since 6/30/2024

Since the last update, I've added three regular videos and three shorts.

A big part of the hobby for a lot of people is to hunt through a stack of bills for gems. One video was a hunt through fifty $1 bills while I talked on what kinds of bills are good to collect:

Hunting through a bunch of ones for serial numbers!

Another video talked about a couple of bills I bought at a sale:

Skip note that I bought at a sale, as well as an old Benjamin.

And the last one was a pricing video for a member's bills:

Pricing some near super-repeater serial numbers.

The three shorts talked about a single kind of bill from my collection and are getting a bit formulaic. That may be why the views have dropped a bit for these kinds of videos. I may need to mix it up a bit. Here's one; the others are similar.

Showing off a super repeater serial number.

Continuing to support other growing channels

I continue to get some great comments from a few subscribers. New ones are showing up, which is a good sign.

A few of the commenters have their own growing channels. One has nearly 2,000 subscribers, and the other has a little over 300. (I'm in the low 600s now.)

I've subscribed to their channels and commented on their videos so that we can support one another.

Monetization eligibility

I currently have 603 subscribers, up 9 from the previous update. I need 1,000 subscribers minimum.

I have 596 public watch hours over the past 12 months, up 7 from the previous 7 days. I need 4,000 minimum on regular videos. (Shorts don't count.)

Below is a graph of my channel's watch hours over the past 90 days. This past week I cracked 7 hours on a couple of days. The trend is going in the correct direction. Once I crack 11 hours per day, that's where I need to be to maintain 4,000 hours a year.

My strategy for increasing these numbers continues to be:

  • Continue to post new videos. (I'm thinking I need to mix up the Shorts a bit more.)
  • Develop relationships with other similar channels.
  • Respond to comments without fail.
  • Cross-promote videos on my other online properties, such as my blogs and my Facebook group.
